Andalusi textiles and embroideries such as this one were products of the luxury arts workshops around the court, such as the Dar al-Tiraz, or royal textile factory. Examples span historical periods from the Caliphate of Córdoba in the tenth century to the Nasrid Sultanate of Granada in the fifteenth century, which were made of silk and gold. These works were of the highest quality, both technically and artistically, and enjoyed the same importance as other decorative arts, such as ivories and jewellery, inlaid woodwork and lustre ceramics.
